Bled, The
http://www.thebled.net
With: Mike P., Ross

Interview by Dustin

The Bled are huge now. I did this 2-part interview with Mike Pedicone and Ross Ott in June 2004. This is part 1.

Last time I interviewed anyone in the Bled was in Summer of 2003. Since then, you guys have basically exploded all over. What the hell happened and how'd it happen so fast? Do you enjoy the huge amount of publicity now?
Pedicone: I think that a lot of the reason things are going so well is because we have stayed on the road. We haven't really taken anytime off in the past year. We are also lucky to have solid management and a great label. Publicity is going amazing as well....we really have no complaints.

Since you have been touring non-stop, have you all finally dropped out of school (James implies this a lot) and quit day jobs in Tucson? Is The Bled a full-time "job" now?
Ross: The Bled is definetly full time and has been for the past year. James and I dropped out after one semester. Pedicone was in for 3 years and dropped out the week before we left on our first tour. It has definetly been an easy transition. None of us were happy in school or with random assed Watch World jobs or with sunglass cart sales.

Are you going to be releasing anything new besides the Atticus compilation? Any EPs or maybe a new full length in the near future?
Pedicone: We will release another full length record in 2005. We plan on going in and recording in early winter. At this point, we have 4 songs written and ready.

Do you seem to get a lot of weird response to being on Fiddler? It is more of a poppy label, so do people give you shit for not being signed to some "hardcore" label?
Pedicone: Yeah man, I can't believe how many emails we are flooded with about that exact question. People are shocked!!! But really, no I've never heard that before and I would probably actually feel sick inside if someone asked me why we weren't on a hardcore label. Why would anyone worry about that?

How the hell do you guys come up with your song titles? And tell me, was "Hotel Coral Essex" only named that because it can be written as "HOTel cORAL esSEX?" I'm on to you guys!
Pedicone: Yeah well... it's actually from an 80's smash hit movie called Revenge of the Nerds. There is a part in the movie where they stay at Hotel Coral Essex and they have a party. Before the party they break out the lights on the sign to make it say 'hot oral sex.' When people see the sign they stop dead in their tracks and roll on into the party ready for a family sized fuck n suck.

I have the special edition packaging of your CD... the one with the slide on thing that goes over the actual jewel case. But the other day I was in Tower Records and I saw the basic CD that is only a jewel case (like most CDs are), and it had a sticker on it that said "Special Edition Packaging." What's up with that shit?
Pedicone: Maybe they had extra stickers? The one you have is the actual special packaging one. Really they're both special in their own ways.

What's the stupidest thing a fan has done to/for you guys at a show?
Pedicone: Someone stole the mic out of James' hands and ripped it out from the cord. He came up at the end of the show and was holding the mic ransom for one of James' shoes. Dude wouldn't give back the mic.

Word association:
Ass - 8th street latinas
Tower - ratdog
Paper - hardcore
Clock - flava flave
Hardcore - paper
Computer - tron
Internet - tarnle clampts
Beat - street the king of the beat ya see em rockin that beat from across the street

So what persuaded you guys to play Warped Tour this year? Have you been getting a lot of crap about that from the hardcore kids?
Ross: Actually, we have had nothing but support about being on Warped...it is an incredible oppertunity. A lot of amazing bands.

How much would it cost to get you guys to play naked?
Pedicone: We've done it before. It just takes a sensual place.
