A huge improvement for the Trons
I was introduced to Genghis Tron through a friend a little while ago. That’s all I’m going to say about that. Then all of a sudden I got the band’s new full length, “Dead Mountain Mouth,” in the mail. Strange coincidence. I read up a little bit about the album and discovered that Kurt Ballou (Converge) recorded the album at his Godcity Studios, so I knew I was in for something good.
Once the first track built up from the very quiet clicking sound it starts off with, I was blown away. The band is so fucking heavy, and they’re just a three-piece (guitar, keys, and vocals). I could have sworn there were 2 guitarists and a bassist in there somewhere. The grind-like guitar riffage backed up by the speedy drum machine blast beats and ambient keys are just perfect. That’s all I can say. The screams are just deadly, reminding me of Jacob Bannon (Converge).
I don’t know what else to say. Genghis Tron know how to play both fast, brutal music, and they know how to tone things down to sort of even things out with some nice ambient music or a nice drum machine outro (see “White Walls”). Bravo.
