Laminated

I used to be a huge AFI fan until about a year ago. I just got so tired of their attempts to be “dark” and I just couldn’t stand their style anymore, especially on Sing The Sorrow.

I just read on punknews.org that AFI’s upcoming album will be entitled Decemberunderground, which seems a bit random. Apparently the band is going to go back to their hardcore roots, and they want to mix in more electronic stuff as well, which is absolutely fine by me because I love that stuff.

Most importantly, the band’s first single is available on the band’s MySpace page and it’s entitled “Miss Murder”. I don’t really care for the song title, but the song is really good. Very poppy, but good. The song is really dancey, and there’s some electronic stuff thrown in, along with some screaming. The screaming didn’t sound like vocalist Davey Havok though, but the album is supposed to feature a lot of guest vocalists, so that’s probably why.

The song is very radio-friendly for the most part, which is what I was expecting, but it’s a damn good track, and I’m glad the band isn’t afraid to throw in some screams and do some experimenting. I vowed I would never buy another AFI record in my life, but when Decemberunderground comes out, I might just end up purchasing it.
